Bald Mountain, located in Oquossoc, provides much of what I'm looking for in a hike:
1.) The summit has an observation tower with a spectacular view:
To the west: Mooselookmeguntic, Richardson, Umbagog and other lakes. The Rangeley lakes are some of my favorites to view to the east.
Mountain views of Mt. Washington, Old Speck, Sunday River, Elephant, Bemis, and the West Kennebago Mountains.
North and East: Bigelow, Sugarloaf, Crocker, Spaulding, Abraham, and Saddleback.
The trail is only 1.3 miles long, perfect for a lazy summer hike and picnic.
A few miles west of Oquossoc on route 16, there is a public boat launch, perfect for kayaking or canoeing after the hike and picnic.
